Terroir
AOC Cahors. This wine is entirely produced from a limestone and clayey plot
situated at the foot of the Château. This very special terroir oriented
towards the river and benefiting from a full southern exposure was partly
replanted in 2002. A fairly high density of plantation (6,600 vines/ha)
favours a reduced yield per vine and the production of grapes of better
quality.
Grape varietals
and harvesting:
100% Malbec. The grapes are handpicked.
Vinification and
upbringing:
Vinification, fermentation and 18-months’ ageing in new oak barrels.
This special cuvée is produced only in the finest years. The vintages
currently offered for sale are 1998 and 2000.
Tasting notes:
This wine presents a dark and profound robe, a spicy nose, and in the mouth
reveals great concentration, power and amplitude. Like the finest growths,
it expresses, with elegance, the very essence of its terroir.
Each vintage
reproduces on its label one of the seventeen tapestries made by the Manufacture
des Gobelins in Paris and offered to Her Majesty Queen Margrethe II on the
occasion of her fiftieth birthday. This collection of tapestries illustrates
the history of the Kings of Denmark from the year 1000 AD to this day.
